During COVID 19 we have changed the way we work, all doctor requests will be dealt with initially by phone and if needs be the doctor will ask for a photograph to be sent to us, possibly by email, OR request you join them in a video link so they can see you OR possibly bring you in if it is felt safe to do so. The call may come from a withheld number and please note the reception team cannot give you a precise time for the call so please be patient. See the section below on video consultations.
You may be asked by reception for a very brief description of your problem. This will help the reception team to signpost you to the most appropriate healthcare professional or service for your needs.
A nurse appointment maybe more appropriate see Nurses and Minor illness nurse appointments as may our in house pharmacist or physiotherapist. All of these other health care professionals are fully trained and specialists in their field. Some of the nurses and pharmacist can also prescribe medicine if they feel it is appropriate.
There are only a certain number of each appointment type that we can make available on any given day and that demand for appointments can sometimes be quite high. If you are unable to keep an appointment for whatever reason, please ring us as soon as possible on 01225 331616 and select option 2. You will be able to leave a message to cancel your appointment and we can make the slot available to other patients. If you cancel at very short notice and we are unable to rebook the appointment this may be recorded as a Did Not Attend (DNA) on your record.
How to Make an Appointment
Use our online symptom checker to determine who you might be best to see. This is called DoctorLink and has been developed by GPs across the country. To do this you need to visit this website here, or use the App (available in the App store or Google play i.e. for all smart phones). If the suggestion is to use a service that is not within the practice e.g. community pharmacy or dentist use the the MiDOS search tool 'Enter your location here ..' on our home page to find one local and open.

Online Options (for routine GP and First Contact Physio appointments):
1) NHS App
2) SystmOnline via the link at the top of this page. To access the online service you will need to come to the surgery to register at reception where you will be given a Personal Identification Number (PIN) which you can then use to set up your unique user account with your own secure password. Please note that, for identification and confidentiality purposes, you will need to present in person at the surgery to obtain your PIN. If this is not possible for you to do, please telephone the surgery for advice on how to register for this service.

Routine GP appointments (currently telephone initially and routine telephone appointments can be booked online)
Morning surgery 07:45 to 11:00
Afternoon surgery 14:00 to 16:00
Evening surgery 16:00 to 18:00
Routine GP appointments are 10 minutes long.
Telephone Appointments (please ignore this section as all GP contact is by telephone first)
The doctor will phone you after morning surgery at an appropriate time on the phone number of your choice, e.g. home, mobile etc.
Telephone appointments save you having to come to the surgery and are appropriate for issues such as medication queries, reviews, follow up for previous consultations, to discuss test results, and for general clinical advice/queries where an examination is not required.

Saturday Clinics (not running in the current climate)
We also have some Saturday morning surgeries available for pre-booked appointments only. These surgeries are provided primarily for the convenience of patients, such as commuters, who may find it difficult to get the surgery during normal weekday opening times.
Please note that Saturday surgeries are for pre-booked appointments only we do not provide any other services on Saturday, e.g. repeat prescriptions, test results etc. There is no Practice telephone service on Saturdays. Walk in and Wait Surgeries (Fairfield Park registered patients only)

These surgeries are available every weekday between 08:00am to 10:30am for patients who have already registered at Fairfield Park Health Centre and who feel they need to see a doctor or nurse immediately. Please note that, as these clinics can be very busy, the urgent care team can only discuss one health problem in each appointment.
For musculoskeletal problems, please book a 30 minute First Contact Physio appointment online or ring reception to book.
In order to access the Walk in and Wait surgery you will need to book in at the reception desk before 10:30am. There is one Nurse and one GP on duty for the Walk in and Wait surgeries and patients are seen in the order in which they are booked. All children under 16 in the Walk in and Wait surgeries will be booked in with the Practice Nurse first who is able to prescribe.
At busy times, other GPs who are seeing patients in routine surgeries may assist with the Walk in and Wait to reduce waiting times, however, there may sometimes be a high demand on these surgeries which may mean a long wait, however all patients booked before 10:30am will be seen.
If the matter does not require immediate attention, please book a routine appointment or ask reception for an Improved Access evening or weekend appointment at another BaNES surgery.
Please note any administrative requests including repeat prescriptions and paperwork should be directed to reception and are not appropriate for the Walk in and Wait.
